Ongoing Squarespace Editor Issues - April 2026
If you’re finding yourself double-checking Squarespace layouts more than usual, or saving with a slight sense of dread, you’re not alone.
There has been a noticeable uptick in bugs and performance issues in the Squarespace editor, particularly within Fluid Engine.
Over the past few months, and more sharply in late April 2026, the editing experience has become less stable. The reports are widespread - forum threads, Reddit, Facebook and private Slack and WhatsApp channels all report similar behaviours - things feel slower, less predictable, and occasionally just break.
What People Are Seeing
A few issues keep coming up:
Unpredictable behaviour: Blocks resizing themselves, layouts shifting without warning, and fighting just to grab and move something in the grid
Lag and saving issues: Longer pages are especially painful. “Oops, reload” messages, slow saves, and in some cases lost changes
Mobile knock-on effects: Fix something on desktop, break something on mobile. Then fix mobile, and you’re back where you started
None of this is completely new, but the frequency is creeping up.
What You Can Do (For Now)
Here are a few practical steps that may help:
Use incognito or private mode to rule out extension conflicts
Try a different browser. Firefox gets mentioned a lot
Save more often than you think you need to
Don’t run multiple editor tabs at once
The Bigger Picture
Squarespace is clearly pushing forward with newer features like Layers, Transforms, and upcoming Stacks. That’s all positive in the long run.
But right now, it does feel like new features are being rolled out at the expense of platform stability.
Wider Issues?
Around April 27, there was a prolonged period of 503 Service Unavailable errors that affected not just the editor, but also made sites unavailable. Monitoring services like Downdetector showed a spike in reports at the same time.
