Reasons to know your Squarespace version

  • If your site was designed by someone else, knowing the version makes it easier to use Squarespace Help Centre guides effectively.

  • Version 7.0 users have the option to upgrade to 7.1, with some considerations.

  • Researching a template switch may require knowledge of your Squarespace version.

  • Understanding your version can help address discrepancies in features between your site and others.

  • "Here's how to check your Squarespace version in under a minute. This will work for 7 and 7.1 sites. It's very, very quick. I'm probably going to talk about it longer than it actually takes to do it.

If you look on this page, you can see I have a link here that's going to do the magic. I'll also put the link underneath the video on YouTube so it's easy to get to. So here we go, let's check. Clicking the link. If you've got more than one site, it will take you to a panel showing more than one site. I want to look at this one. Here we go. Oh, the internet is slow.. it takes you to that page. I scroll down to the bottom and there is the version and the template that it's using.

So it's Brine family, Brine template because Brine is a template and within the Brine template on 7.0, there are a number of themes (one of which is called Brine).

Let's try another one. So we'll go to here and I know for a fact that this one is going to be 7.1, but it illustrates a point. Here we go, scroll down to the bottom. Thank you for the ding. It says it's version 7.1. It doesn't tell me a theme then. Why is that? Well, 7.1 only has one template and within that template, there are pretty much an infinite amount of themes, so it's almost no point in telling you which theme you start with because by the time you start changing colors and tweaking fonts and things like that, you move away from that original theme within template but it's all the same template actually. You can make it look like any of the other themes that are available on version 7.1.

So I hope this has been useful for you. As you can see, it only actually takes about 10 seconds to find the template once you've got the link to click. So, crack on."

  • Introduction

Determining your Squarespace site's version, 7 or 7.1, needn't be complex. I'll show you a quick way to find out, saving you time for more important tasks.

    Quick Steps

    1. The Magic Link: I've placed a link right on this page, and under the video on YouTube, that instantly shows your site's version.

    2. Select Your Site: Clicking the link may bring up multiple sites if you have them. Just pick the one you're curious about.

    3. Version and Template Info: Scroll to the bottom of your site's page to see the version and template details.

    Understanding Your Site

    • Version 7.0: If you're on 7.0, you'll see your site listed under a specific template family, like Brine, which comes with various themes.

    • Version 7.1: For those on 7.1, there's only one template, but it offers endless theme possibilities. Due to extensive customization options, the starting theme is less relevant.

    Conclusion

With a quick click and scroll, you can easily find out your site's specifics. Whether you're on 7.0 or 7.1, understanding your foundation allows for better customization and management of your site.
